Historical Milestones On Can Tho Marathon - A Heritage Race 2022's Track
The running track of the Can Tho Heritage International Marathon 2022 will leave many impressions, thanks in part to two milestones in Vietnam's history, separated by more than 4,000 years.
After the 2019 debut, the race is returning this December with a new Start and Finish lines at the Hung Kings Temple, the largest spiritual tourist destination in the western part of Vietnam's southern region. The first Hung King ascended the throne in 2524 BC.
If the Hung Temple in the northern province of Phu Tho is a place of worship associated with the famous commemoration of the ancestors' death each March of the lunar calendar, then the Hung Kings Temple in Can Tho, inaugurated in April 2022, is the place to show the sacred respect towards the origin of the Vietnamese people in Vietnam's South.
Runners participating in the Can Tho Marathon - A Heritage Race 2022, one of Vietnam's most professionally organized races, will also stride on the second milestone - Lo Vong Cung (Arc-shaped Road), which used to be the “Ring of Fire” battered by bombs and bullets after the Tet Offensive in 1968.
Today, the route has become a green belt with luxuriant orchards and fruit trees, along the river busy with boats.
The running course of this year's marathon will also take runners to go past Truc Lam Phuong Nam Zen Monastery, one of the largest Buddhist institutions in the region, and the grave of Phan Van Tri, a teacher - patriotic poet at the end of the 19th century.
Both of the sites are in Phong Dien district, more than 10 kilometers (6 miles) from Can Tho city center.
Innovations with such unique points on the track will definitely bring runners many interesting experiences.
